1950's inspired Wedding Gowns

I am loving these 50's inspired gowns found at Martha Stewart Weddings. Each one is so detailed and fresh. The length on gowns continues to get higher, which when paired with the right Tiffany Blue colored shoes can make a big statement. Enjoy!

A few pics of a wedding for some dear friends. It was held at Tsunami - a sushi place in Baton Rouge that has this awesome outside deck on the 6th floor overlooking the Mississippi river. It was their second  marriage, so very intimate and low key. They each have 2 kids that were a huge part of the ceremony. The coolest thing is that a week earlier the bride under went a bone marrow transplant to save her little sister. Her sister was recently diagnosed with leukemia after she gave birth to her first child. She has been in the hospital since the baby was born. The couple changed around their wedding plans so the bride could do the transplant surgery. She borrowed her sisters shoes for her "something borrowed", kinda gave a whole new meaning to walking in someone else's shoes. Such great people - well deserving of a great wedding.

I loved the bouquet - created of field dahlias, cymbidium orchids, ranunculus, scented geranium, fern curls and a few stems of star of  Bethlehem.

I used lots of candles and ti leaves and grass. Kinda organic and natural. 

Field Simplicity

Found this real wedding while browsing through greylikesweddings blog. A few things that I love about this;

1. Ceremony in a field and the awesome vintage chairs

2. Velvet ribbon used for invites

3. Bridesmaids short white dresses

4. Chandelier at the reception

Couture Wedding Shoes

Wedding shoes can be a great way to show off your own unique style like these awesome ones from famed UK designer Philip Treacy. His love of fashion actually begun in his childhood home in Ireland where he would watch weddings take place. His work is stunning!

Orchids, ahhhhh......

I love orchids & all the creative uses for them. They are simple and elegant and when a designer uses them right they are gorgeous. Stringing and hanging orchids is something I learned from doing tent weddings & beach ceremonies. Yes the labor part is tedious and orchids are more expensive, but the effect is well worth it. We strung orchids with crystals and hung them from chandeliers, arbors, and over food stations.

The picture above is from NY fashion week and the curtain of orchids is what greeted guests at a recent show in Central Park. Pretty amazing.

Where my love of orchids originated, The Wynn Hotel in Vegas. Belagio started the flower craze with the botanical gardens but the Wynn designers brought it to a whole new level with their simple cluster designs.

Another awesome hotel with great floral design is The Hotel inside Mandalay Bay in Vegas. This is one of my all time favorite hotels, they do everything elegant and simple.

Orchids are awesome flowers to submerge since their weight is equally proportionate.

Candes and Crystals

I love candlelit weddings and chandeliers strung from trees, which is why I had to post these images taken by Paul Johnson Photography. The simplicity of an early evening wedding lined with candles is so very romantic.The designer of these events is the amazingly talented Christina Springfield of Nouveau Flowers. I had the pleasure of working for Christina and am still in awe of her creativity and originality.

Wild Flowers (Minus the satin ribbon)

Brooklyn floral designer Saipua created these phenomenal unstructured wedding flowers. I love the texture and mix of colors. Here’s to leaving satin tied bouquets on the shelf for a moment.

Bridesmaids, Rainboots and Inspirational eggs

I found this wedding on Design Sponge and really admired the brides originality. The multi colored rain boots and the stamped eggs are fun ideas and great insight into showing off your personality through the details.

Warehouse Elegance

This is one of my favorite looks for 2010. Textured pewter and crystal, a fun balance of polished and industrial. I can see this in an old warehouse with Etta James songs, formal gowns and steel garage doors. I love all the delicate glass against old tables. Great look in my humble opinion.

Back from Seclusion

Two things happened since my last posting. 1 is my computer crashed as in the manufacturer could not even find the hard drive. 2 is I got involved in some thing other than weddings. I have been volunteering at our church's Dream Center. This has been an awesome experience. I get to do outreaches, counseling, assisting, and pretty much whatever else is needed. The Dream Center is this huge building in the inner city that has a drop in center for homeless kids, a free cafe for the community, an after school program, a GED program, a free clothing boutique, hair salon, 24 hour hot line and much more. We help anyone and everyone. Really cool group of people that I get to hang out with.

Aside from my fun being had at the Dream Center, I am also designing my cousins wedding. This is very special, as we have always been very close. The wedding is in May 30 in south Texas. Some obstacles have included the location (old dance hall/barn with no AC and lots of wood) and the budget (she is finishing her masters and they are both young). It has been fun coming up with budget friendly ideas.
I am considering publishing a book about budget friendly weddings.

To liven up the old barn I am using bold and bright summer colors. Instead of table linens, I am overlaying butcher paper on top of White linens. Each "paper" linen will have a stenciled eclectic design flanking the center of the table. A roll of 1000 feet long and 36" wide butcher paper costs $47.00. A grouping of clear vases will host flowers like Dahlia, Ranunculus, Sweet pea, Freesia, Hydrangea, Iris and agapanthus. Ti light candles around vases and hanging crystals with sewn colorful hours will hang from the rafters. I will post photos and keep updates as the date gets closer. If anyone has some great budget friendly ideas, please send them this way.
